JOHN WESLEY once said “ PRAYER IS WHERE THE ACTION IS”
EXPECT great things from God ATTEMPT great things for God ACHIEVE great things with God
JESUS taught concerning prayer “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. [ Matthew 6 v 6-8 ]
JUDE the half brother of Jesus wrote “Dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-- to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
PRAYING INTO THE MOSLEM WORLD. We constantly hear these days of Islam or Moslems, usually connected to violence, but how many of us actually pray for them. There is increasing disillusionment amongst many Muslims and a willingness to question their faith. More Muslims are becoming disciples of Jesus than ever before & God is speaking to Muslims calling them to Himself
One way of maintaining informed praying is by joining the Fellowship of Faith for Muslims, a Christian fellowship founded 100 year ago in 1915. Several people local to Saffron Walden are members of it. For a £10 a year sub we receive a Monthly Bulletin of prayer requests drawn from a lot of mission organisations in various countries working amongst them. For details contact www.ffm.org.uk or write to :- The Administrator. FFM. PO Box 190. Stockport.SK6 OBF E-mail:- admin@ffm.org.uk LHPM have been members of FFM for about 20 years. We get a lot of confidential information.
GOSPEL PRINTING MISSION - JESUS SAID "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the Vine, You are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in Him He will bear much fruit Apart from Me you can do nothing” [ John 15 v 1-5 ]
GOSPEL PRINTING MISSION started in 1960 until recently had grown to a team of 18 volunteers producing printing and distributing free of charge just about 2 million tracts and booklets a year in 39 languages for use in approximately 80 countries. However on Sept 8th the younger of their 2 printing presses caught fire and was destroyed so their ability to print has been halved. The press is irreplaceable as they are no longer made but a larger design is purchasable. Should they see this as the Lord pruning their vine to produce more fruit, and buy the larger machine? If so with what?. They need the money. For details of their work access www.gpmgb.ork.uk or write to them at 46 Roxy Avenue, Chadwell Heath, Romford, Essex RM6 4AY. LHPM have found them helpful over the years to supply tracts to overseas contacts
BIBLES FOR NIGERIA Since March last year until mid November LHPM were enabled to make 27 grants for Bibles amounting to 3494 copies, and bringing from 2011 to date the total to 5785. We supplied in the second half of the year 70 copies to a Prison Group. They are praying that 18 Muslim cell mates will come over to Jesus. 45 to lay pastors and lay evangelists from the Limelight Bible Institute at Benin City who had been on a training course in use of the Bible but had no copies to minister from. 400 Bibles to Pastor Terry Bon who is ls also an itinerant evangelist and he wrote “ How happy and highly excited I was when I received the Bibles you sent to us. Pen can never express my profound gratitude enough. I am very grateful for your sacrificial giving and love. 50 to Michelle Erhun a woman evangelist working amongst women in a Muslim dominated area where women are regarded as second class citizens. She was thrilled to get them. 18 large print to Pastor David who asked for them for leaders for research and study. He is 50 and with his wife they are leading a rural congregation in a community area of 8000, the only Church there. The JW's and Radical Islamists are pro-active there. 65 to Pastor Jude 400 to Pastor Sam Imade 50 to Sister Gabriella to replace those burnt by Islamist barbarians on May 24th when her Church's building was destroyed and people injured. So we have now supplied all those requests and this year 4 more including 486 for use ny 3 churves for new converts by Pastor Frank bringing the total since 2011 to 6,437 and we recently had 14 thank you letters. We are not expecting to be able to supply any more.
WE ALSO FUNDED 130 CHRISTIAN BOOKS from a bookshop to a village Church in 2014 in the outskirts of the Benin City which had 105 members and had about 15 Bibles till we supplied 25 more. We also sent just over 20 books given to us from UK by air but it cost £73 of which £40 was donated by the supplier. The books have enabled the pastor to set up a lending library at the church for his community. He said that some people had been brought to Christ through reading them and others helped and in February we supplied 200 more. We hope to add to this in future years DV.
NEW TESTAMENTS FOR ZAMBIAN SOLDIERS may still be sent to Pastor Dominic Mulalambuka c/o Tug-Argan Barracks, at Ndola. We recently sent 12 AV donated by Anne Revell a former BB Officer at Walden who is moved North that were surplus to those distributed to boys in the Company in 1983 Some song books used by the Bible Class in the 1980's we have also sent abroad to an orphanage.
We can still accept donations for copies of BEMBA BIBLES which cost £6.25p each for new converts on the islands on Lake Mweru.
ENCOURAGING ZAMBIAN PRISONERS
FRANK CHILUFYA who is in for maybe 25 years for murder that arose from a chance argument that led to someone getting killed. He is hundreds of miles from his home area and unlikely to see his wife and children for that amount of time. He has since become a Christian. Prays 3 times a day. Fasts once a week, using a NT he has recently finished reading the Gospels for the first time. We have supplied him Christian books, magazines and a study Bible, He has joined a singing group and said he would like to take up painting. We have sent him crayons, tubes of oils ,paints for water colour painting and art paper. He also asked for Christian magazines, 2nd hand Bible reading notes, mission magazines, and some have been sent. We have also supplied him shoes, shirts, jumper, trousers and set him up on a Bible Study Course that he can then use for teaching a Prayer Group he has started with initially 15 prisoners.
JOSEPH S MUSONDA, is another Christian long term prisoner also at the Maximum Security Prison in Kabwe, where he is a trusty, working in the education and training centre teaching English and Science to GCSE standard. We send him a diary and a calendar each year and
his sentence has been reduced and he is studying a diploma in agricultural science as when he leaves he hopes to head up an agricultural project recently we were able to afford to send him a new stapler, staples, paper, envelopes, socks, which he had requested. He also needed batteries to power his radio, cassette player and alarm clock but batteries are on the prohibited list so we are trying to get agreement from the Catholic chaplain who is from India to receive money to him to buy batteries locally. Joseph has asked for books for a Christian book mini-library as he has had in the other section of the prison he has been moved from, some Christian books have been supplied to us and we are endeavouring to send them when we can afford the postage which is rising again in April If anyone feels like helping him. The address is through the Roman Catholic chaplain to:- JOSEPH S MUSONDA. c/o Father George Biju, S.V.D. Formation House, PO Box 81158, Kabwe, ZAMBIA. Central Africa
We continue to pray for Elder JACKSON CHANDA who pioneered a church at Nchelenge and spends much time on islands on Lake Mweru despite the risk of malaria and Congolese bandits where 3 congregations have been formed of subsistence farm workers. We fund the education of 6 Aids orphans there and he has asked for 200 more Bemba Bibles at £6.25p each for new converts
GOD'S POSTMEN Last year Ken Bedward and I have delivered VIA Gospel Magazine to over 6000 homes, including parts of southern Uttlesford and all of Duxford, Pampisford, Linton, and Sawston, some in Lavenham, new homes in Walden We resumed in April at Whittlesford although my right leg has not entirely recovered from two falls one at St Mark's College at Audley End on rain soaked grass that left me sitting in a puddle of mud and straining a muscle and the other in Audley Road at 9.40pm in a stretch where there are no street lamps in which I collided with a wall and removed some 4 inches of top skin. We hope to to visit Philpots End, Ford End, Great Bardfield and various villages to the North and West of Uttlesford.
ISRAEL We would encourage you to help there through Christian Witness to Israel. Access www.cwi.org.uk and www.shalom.org.uk Apparently 80% of Israel's Jewish citizens are atheists or agnostics.
GLOBAL RECORDINGS NETWORK UK. This year we have been enabled to provide another new Saber Solar & Clock work powered CD Player with Gospel recordings to another remote place. Last year one went to a remote part of Eastern Congo to a displaced Pygmy tribal community to a congregations there several days walk from the nearest road. We have 10 in use & try to supply 1 a year. This year we funded one to Gambia.
Also I have mailed over 40 Bible teaching cassettes and some videos to 5 locations last month & have blanks to record more copies.
MALAWI AND MOZAMBIQUE VISITATIONS Pastor Enoch Dimba Director of Christian Resource Ministries in Blantyre keeps in touch and I pray and sometimes share his prayer requests for the villages he and his team visit .CRM provide pastors for over 700 village churches in the 2 countries. We support CRM through their office in Scotland.
PAKISTAN We are prayer supporting Patras Gahani Gahani Sardar a lay pastor with only 1 years' training caring for a small congregation whi are slowly building a church building and have need of 20 sacks of cement ,some window frames. more doors and a roof. They give out Bibles in Urdu, and packs of school resources to families at Christmas. We hope to help fund this later in the year. Remet Sher is a pries of the ACC – Anglican Catholic Church in Karachi, he is engaged in community social work and seeks support of donors who will help fund his ministry on a monthly donation basis
SOMALI Margaret Ali. Administrator asks us to continue to pray for the work of HiCEP. Please join us in giving thanks that the library building in Beled Weyne is not too badly damaged. Please pray especially for the safety of the man who established Hiran Public Library in the 1990s.who has gone back to try to get the premises repaired and the Library reopened. The Public Library, Reading room and school prospers in the safer area of the country but the authorities have laid out plans to clear away the slum houses of the poor and build homes for sale, This will alter the character of the place and some families may not be able to travel to the school from the rehoused area, so it is going to be held in the afternoon from now onwards . Pray too for A , a young handicapped man associated with the school who has been arrested.
GIFT AID. Donors who are taxpayers can still add to the value of their gifts 25p in each £1 if the cheques are made payable to SAFFRON WALDEN BAPTIST CHURCH with an accompanying letter that it is for The Lighthouse Prayer Ministry and request Gift Aid be added. I can then pass this to the Church Treasurer. Otherwise please make cheques payable to The Lighthouse Prayer Ministry. Send either to me John E Maddams 35 Four Acres, Saffron Walden,Essex CB11 3JD
